Top voor mij - Top for me

In het voorjaar maakte ik een jurk. Dankzij zuinig knippen, kon ik ook nog een top maken. Dat werd er een volgens dit patroon. In dezelfde Knipmode stond ook een soortgelijke top, maar dan met driekwart mouwen. Op de markt in Middelburg vond ik een stofje dat mij erg geschikt leek voor deze top.

Last spring I made a dress. Thanks to careful cutting, I also could make a top out of it. It became a top according to this pattern. In the same Knipmode there was a pattern for a similar top with three-quarter sleeves. At the Middelburg market I found a fabric which I found appropriate for this top.

Toen ik ging knippen zag ik pas dat het patroon verticaal loopt, in plaats van horizontaal... Maar om de letters en notenbalken horizontaal te laten lopen, dat vond ik eigenlijk niets. Dus heb ik de stof een kwartslag gedraaid. Nadat ik de foto's had gemaakt, zag ik pas dat de noten op de notenbalk gespiegeld staan.

I only found out the pattern of the fabric was vertical in stead of horizontal, when I started cutting... But I didn't like the letters and staves to run horizontal across the top. So I turned the fabric by a quarter. After shooting the pictures, I saw the musical notes at the staves are mirrored.



De stof sprak me denk ik vooral aan door de notenbalken. Een andere hobby van mij is klarinet spelen (al kom ik daar [bijna] niet meer aan toe, sinds ik kinderen heb). De stof zit heerlijk. Hij is vrij dun, en heel rekbaar. De mouwen heb ik iets smaller gemaakt, zo sluiten ze mooi rond mijn armen. Doordat de stof zo dun en erg rekbaar is, had ik wel wat moeite met het inzetten van de mouwen. De eerste kwam hierdoor aan de bovenkant dubbel te zitten. Zucht... Eerst wilde ik het maar laten zitten, maar ik heb het toch maar verbeterd. En... Je ziet er niets meer van! :)

I liked the fabric especially becouse of the staves. My other hobby is playing the clarinet (although I [almost] can't get to play it, since my kids are born). The fabric feels great. Its quite thin and very stretchable. I made the sleeves a bit narrower, so they fit nice around my arms. Becouse the fabric is so thin and stretchable, I had to struggle a bit with sewing in the sleeves. The first time the top of the sleeve was sewed double. Sigh... I didn't want to change it at first, but then I changed my mind. And... the first mistake isn't visible anymore! :)

Ik vind het een heel fijn model. De rechte kraaglijn vind ik mooi uitkomen. Ik heb hem wel wat langer gemaakt, zodat de top over de rand van mijn broek komt. Ik houd er niet zo van dat de zoom van de top net tot aan de broekrand komt. Ik wil dit model nog eens maken. Maar dan met een iets dikkere en iets minder rekbare tricot, zodat het iets makkelijker naait.

I like the model. I like the straight collar line. I made the top a bit longer, this way it gets over my pants a bit. I don't like it when the hem of a top just gets to the top of the pants. I want to make this model again. Then I want to use thicker and less stretchable tricot, so sewing it will be easier.
