Scheepjes CAL 2014 - De Deken - The Blanket

Van de achtbaan van met een kleine baby in het ziekenhuis verblijven ging ik bijna naadloos over op de achtbaan van het werk. Dat laatste wel een weekje later dan gepland, want kleine Y moest natuurlijk wel voldoende opgeknapt zijn. Nu ik weer aan het werk ben, heb ik minder tijd om te bloggen (onder andere...). Een 'voordeel' van zo'n ziekenhuis verblijf is dat je daar tijd hebt om te haken. En nu had ik nog een haakproject af te werken... Juist de Scheepjes CAL. Ik was bezig met de rand, en die had ik bijna af toen we uit het ziekenhuis kwamen. Nu kan ik er eindelijk over schrijven.

Rather seamless I jumped from the roller coaster of being in the hospital with a little baby to the roller coaster of working again. This last roller coaster did start one week later than planned, as little Y had to be healty again. Now I'm working again, I don't have much time to blog (amongst other things...). A 'advantage' of being in the hospital is having time to crochet. And I had a project to finish... Right, the Scheepjes CAL. I was busy making the border and it was almost finished when we came home from the hospital. And now I finaly have the time to write about it. 

Nadat ik de vierkantjes van week 5 had gehaakt, besloot ik voor de overige weken nog maar één vierkantje per week te maken. De deken zou dan uiteindelijk het formaat van een baby deken krijgen. Met (toen nog) een baby op komst leek me dat een goed idee. De deken heeft uiteindelijk het gewenste formaat gekregen. In totaal 30 vierkantjes, 6 x 5.

After I did crochet the squares of week 5, I decided to crochet only one square per week left. In this way the blanket would become a baby blanket. With a baby coming up (at the time) I tought this would be a good idea. The blanket did get the format I had in mind. 30 squares in total, 6 x 5.

De vierkantjes haakte ik met vasten aan elkaar, volgens het patroon. De rand deed ik anders. Ik maakte een pom pom randje, volgens dit patroon. Hier ging nog veel tijd in zitten, dat viel wel tegen. Maar uiteindelijk ben ik blij met het resultaat. Zo is het echt een lieve baby deken geworden. 

I joined the squares with a single crochet, as described in the pattern. I did make a different border. I made a pom pom border, according to this pattern. This took more time than I had in mind. Finally I'm happy with the result. It's a sweet baby blanket this way. 

Ik moet zeggen dat ik ook erg blij ben met de kleuren van de deken. Ik gebruikte set 2 en stond er versteld van dat de basiskleur (waarmee de vierkantjes aan elkaar zijn gehaakt en die is gebruikt voor de rand) zo goed past bij elke andere kleur. De combinatie van kleuren vind ik niet te bont, maar wel lekker vrolijk. 

I'm realy happy with the colors in the blanket. I used set 2 and was suprised how well the basic color (used for joining the squares and the border) mached with all the other colors. I think the combination of colors is very cheerful.

En omdat ik was vergeten van de laatste weken foto's te maken, hier nog even de vierkantjes die ik hier nog niet eerder liet zien:

Week 4. Dit vond ik een heel leuk vierkantje. Het bloemetje in het midden vind ik echt heel leuk.

Week 4. I liked this pattern. Especially the flower in the middle, I liked a lot.  

Week 7. Ook dit vond ik een leuk vierkantje om te haken. Hier leerde ik het halve stokje te haken. Als ik hem nog een keer zou haken zou ik de 'ster' wel wat meer punten geven, omdat nu de gaten wat groot zijn.

Week 7. This square was also a lot fun to crochet. In this square I learned to crochet a half treble crochet. When I would crochet it again, I would give the 'star' more points, so the gaps would be less wide.

 

Week 8. Ook weer zo'n leuk patroontje, het begint bijna saai te worden :). Hier leerde ik een dubbel en driedubbel stokje.

Week 8. Again a nice pattern, it's almost getting bored now :). In this pattern I've learned a double trebble crochet and tripple trebble crochet. 

 

Week 9. Dit patroontje vond ik wat minder, maar dat komt door het reliëfstokje. Ik vind het nog steeds geen mooie steek. Maar uiteindelijk vind ik het vierkantje toch wel mooi geworden.

Week 9. This pattern I liked less, but that's becouse of the front post double crochet. I still don't like this stich. In the end I like this square.

Week 10. Het patroontje vond ik niet zo heel geweldig, maar het haakte wel lekker weg. Ik was blij toen ik dit vierkantje af had, want dat betekende dat ik klaar was met alle vierkantjes.

Week 10. This wasn't my favorite square also, but it was nice to crochet. When I finished this square I was happy, becouse this was the last square.

En inmiddels is de deken in gebruik. Hij ligt in de box. Nu het voorzichtig wat warmer wordt, ligt ie wat minder over Y. Maar ze heeft er al heel wat tijd onder door gebracht :). Het is een fijne deken geworden en ik hoop dat we er nog lang plezier van hebben. Door het meedoen met deze CAL heb ik leren haken. Inmiddels heb ik al wat andere, kleine projectjes gehaakt en ben ik begonnen aan een nieuwe deken. Je zal hier dus - waarschijnlijk - wel vaker wat haakwerkjes tegen komen.

In the mean time the blanket is in use in the playpen. Now the weather carefully is warming up, Y lays less under it. But it's been used a lot lately :). It's a nice blanket and I hope we can enjoy it for a long time. By joining this CAL, I've learned to crochet. In the mean time I've made some small projects and I've started on a new blanket. There will be more crochet to see here - probably.

Liebster Award

Nat van TamTam nomineerde mij voor de Liebster Award. Dat was een erg leuke verrassing. Deze verassing kwam wel net op het moment dat ik weer begon met werken, en ik dus wat minder tijd heb om te bloggen. Tussen de bedrijven door werk ik dus aan deze post, zodat ik hem zo snel mogelijk online kan zetten!

Nat of  TamTam nomineted me for the Liebster Award. That's a nice surprise. Only this surprise came on the moment I just started to work again after maternety leave and I had less time to blog. I write this post between times, so I can put it online as soon as possible!

De vragen - The questions
1) Wat doe je in het dagelijks leven en waar word jij echt blij van?
In het dagelijks leven werk ik als ICT-er. Momenteel betekent dit dat ik Geografische Informatie Systemen (GIS) beheer. Daarnaast ben ik de vrouw van mijn man (duh) en mama van 3 lieve en mooie kindjes: Dochter Z (april 2009), zoon S (januari 2012) en dochter Y (november 2014). Ik wordt echt blij van mijn kindjes. Als mijn kindjes gelukkig zijn, ben ik het ook :). Of, iets minder cliché: ik word blij als ik ergens hard voor gewerkt heb, en het wordt uiteindelijk zoals ik het wilde hebben.

1) What do you do in your daily life and what makes you realy happy?
In my daily life I work as administrator of Geografic information systems. Besides that I'm the wife of my husband (duh) and the mom of three sweet and beautiful kids: Daugher Z (April 2009), son S (January 2012) and daughter Y (November 2014). They realy make me happy. When my kids are happy, I am too. Or, less cliché: It makes me happy when I worked for something realy hard and it turns out the way I had in mind. 

2) Waarom ben je beginnen naaien?
Ik ben eerder ondanks dan dankzij de handwerklessen/juffen van de lagere school begonnen met naaien. Wat had ik daar een hekel aan. De juffen waren echt van die roddeltantes, in wiens ogen ik niet veel goed kon doen. Ik was ook op de basisschool meer van de techniek dan van het verzorgen en handwerken, en dat was (in die tijd - begin jaren '90) blijkbaar not done voor een meisje. Mijn moeder naaide veel kleding voor mij en mijn zusjes. Daardoor ben ik ook begonnen met naaien. Dat waren dan dingetjes voor de Barbies. In 2010 overleed mijn oma en zij liet een oude Singer naaimachine na. Mijn moeder en ik besloten hem te delen. Ik naaide wat, hij stond een poosje stil en ik ontdekte hem weer in 2013. Omdat ik toch meer wilde dan de machine aankon, heb ik toen een nieuwe naaimachine gekocht en ben ik deze blog begonnen. Sindsdien naai ik best veel en lukt dat steeds beter. Ik heb zelfs een cursus gedaan zodat ik nu zelf patronen kan tekenen.

2) Why did you start sewing?
The handicraft lessons / teachers at primary school are definitly not the reason I started sewing. I realy hated that. The teachers ware real gossips, by whom I never could do anything right. At primary school I already liked tecnics more than handicraft, which was not done for a girl (at the thime - early ninetees). My mom sewed clothes for me and my sisters. That's wy I started to sew to. First little stuff for the Barbies. When my grandmother died in 2010 she left us an old Singer sewingmachine. My mom and I shared it. I sewed something and than it stood still for a while. I rediscovered it in 2013. I wanted to sew more than the sewingmachine could handle, so I bought one myself and started this blog. Since then I sew rather much and I'm getting better at it. I even followed a course to draw patterns myself.  
 
3) Wat bestel je meestal op restaurant?
Het ligt een beetje naar welk restaurant we gaan. Bij een Italiaan eet ik graag lasagne, maar ik houd ook erg van mosselen of een lekker stukje (rund) vlees.

3) What do you order at a restaurant?
It depends on which restaurant. At an Italian restaurant I like to order lasagne, but I also like mussels or a nice piece of meat. 

4) Welk is je lievelingspatroon?
Ik denk dat dit het patroon voor de Bimaa Sweater is. Dit is een heel makkelijk patroon dat snel klaar is. Ik houd wel van snelle projectjes.

4) What's you're favorite pattern?
I think it's the Bimaa Sweater. It's a easy and quick to sew pattern. I like quick projects. 

 

5) Wat staat er zeker nog op je to-do lijstje?
Veel te veel! Ik ben nu bezig met een over-all, dat ik als kraamcadeau wil geven. Dan wil ik nog een verzorgingstas maken voor Y en een verjaardagsjurk voor Z. Verder wil ik nog schortjes voor de kinderen maken waar ik dan een tutorial over wil schrijven. Het prototype van dit schortje toonde ik hier al eerder.

5) Whats on your to-do list?
To much! I'm working on a over-all, to give as a baby shower gift. Than I want to make a nursery bag for Y and a birthday dress for Z. I still want to make aprons for the kids and write a tutorial about this. The prototype for this apron, I've shown before. 

6) Wat is je fijnste herinnering?
Dat weet ik eigenlijk niet precies. De dagen waarop mijn kinderen geboren zijn, zijn hele bijzondere herinneringen (nee geen traumatische bevallingen). En onze trouwdag, ook al was hij heel gewoontjes, maar precies zoals we wilden, is ook een fijne herinnering. Heel cliché eigenlijk...

6) What's your nicest memory?
I don't know that exactly. The days my kids are born are very special memories (no traumatic bithts here). And our weddingday, even tough it was ordinary, but exactly as we wanted, is a nice memory. Very cliché as a matter of fact...

7) Waar kan men je een plezier mee doen als cadeautje?
Eigenlijk heb ik alles wat mijn hartje begeert... Maar als je me dan toch graag een cadeau wil geven, is een leuk naaiboek (bijvoorbeeld Zo Geknipt 1 of 2) erg leuk. Ook vind ik de patronen van Zonen09 erg mooi, dus daar zou je me ook wel een plezier mee doen.

7) If someone wants to do you a favor with a gift, what should it be?
As a matter of fact I have everything I would like to have... But if someone would like to give me a present, I'd go for a sewingbook (like Zo Geknipt 1 or 2). Or a pattern from Zonen09, ik like those very much.

8)Wie of wat kan je niet missen?
Hier ga ik weer heel cliché op antwoorden. Mijn man en kinderen kan ik niet missen. Daarnaast mijn familie: mijn ouders en zusjes.

8) Is there someone or something you can't miss?
This is going to be a very cliché answer. My husband and kids I can't miss. Also my family: my parents and sisters. 

9) Welke muziek hoor je graag?
Allerlei pop-muziek. Van Red Hot Chillipeppers tot Shania Twain, van Allanis Morrisette tot Sixpence None The Richer.

9) Which music do you like?
All kinds of pop-music. From the Red Hot Chillipeppers to Shania Twain, from Allanis Morrisette to Sixpence None The Richer. 
 
10) Wat zijn je vakantieplannen voor volgende zomer?
Ik heb net een periode van zwangerschapsverlof achter de rug. Ik keek al die tijd eigenlijk niet verder dan het moment waarop ik weer moest gaan werken. Dat was maandag. Nu ga ik pas nadenken over de zomervakantie. Nog geen idee wat dat gaat worden, maar waarschijnlijk een familiepark ergens in Nederland, België of Duitsland... Ook Zwitserland staat nog steeds op ons lijstje, maar of dat nu zo handig is met een kleine baby...? ;)

10) What are your plans for holliday this summer?
I've just had a period of maternaty leave. All this time I didn't think further than the moment I had to go to work again. This was last Monday. Now I'm thinking of holliday this summer. I don't know what it's going to be, probably a family park somewhere in the Netherlands, Belgium or Germany... Switzerland is on our list to, but I don't know if this is very conveniant with a baby...  

11) Lees je graag? Zo ja, wat is je favoriete boek?
Ik lees heel graag. Elke avond voor ik ga slapen lees ik een stukje. Een favoriet boek vind ik moeilijk aan te wijzen. Ik ben er zelf trots op dat ik The Goldfinch in het Engels heb gelezen. Dat vond ik een heel mooi boek. Verder vond ik de boeken van Carlos Riuz Zafón, die draaien om Het Kerkhof van de vergeten boeken erg indrukwekkend. Ook houd ik van detectives en thrillers. Een paar schrijvers die ik graag lees zijn: Nicci French, John Grisham, Leon de Winter en Simone van der Vlugt.

11) Do you  like to read? If so, which book is your favorite?
I do like to read. Every evening before going to sleep, I read. It's hard to say wich book is my favorite. I'm proud I've read The Goldfinch in English. This was a beautiful book. Besides that I found the books The Shadow of the Wind, Angel's Game and Prisoner of Heaven of Carlos Riuz Zafón very impressive. I like to read thrillers and detectives. Some of my favorite writers are: Nicci French and John Grisham and the Dutch writers Leon de Winter and Simone van der Vlugt.

Olaf Carnavalsoutfit - Olaf Carnival Outfit

Hoe plannen zo even in de war gegooid kunnen worden. Mijn plan was vorig weekend te laten zien wat Z droeg met Carnaval op school. Maar toen werd kleine Y voor bijna een week opgenomen in het ziekenhuis. Omdat ik borstvoeding geef, ben ik bij haar gebleven. Bloggen over een Carnavalsoutfit is dan ineens zo belangrijk niet meer. Nu we weer thuis zijn kan ik de draad weer oppakken.

Eigenlijk dacht ik dat ik dit jaar het Carnaval-verkleed-gebeuren aan me voorbij kon laten gaan. En ik dacht ook dat ik Frozen aan me voorbij kon laten gaan. Ik had buiten de school om gedacht. Z keek op school naar Frozen en bekijkt nu op YouTube filmpjes van de liedjes van Frozen. Hier op het dorp wordt Carnaval uitgebreid gevierd, dus op school natuurlijk ook. De laatste dag voor de vakantie mochten de kinderen verkleed naar school. Ik moest last-minute nog iets bedenken en kwam deze tutorial tegen. In plaats van een trui te kopen besloot ik er een zelf te maken. Het werd een Bimaa met een capuchon. Ik besloot ook nog een broek te maken. Hiervoor heb ik het patroon van The Ananda Pants gebruikt. Van beide patronen gebruikte ik maat 6, voor mijn slanke bijna 6-jarige. Dit zijn twee snelle patroontjes ik denk dat ik in totaal zo'n 3 á 4 uur bezig ben geweest.

This is how plans get mixed up. My plan for last weekend was to show you wat Z wore to the Carnival party at school. But then little Y became ill and was hopitalized for almost a week. Becouse I'm breast feeding, I stayed with her. Blogging about a Carnival outfit wasn't that important anymore. Now we're back home I'm trying to catch up. 

As a matter of fact I tought I could skip the Carnival-getting-dressed-happening this year. I also tought I could skip the Frozen-thing. Well, I forgot school. At school Z watched Frozen and now she is watching the Frozen songs on YouTube. In our village Carnival is much celebrated, so school celebrates Carnival too. The last day before leave, the kids could come to school dressed up for Carnival. So I had to make Z a last-minute costume. I stumbled apon this tutorial. In stead of buying a sweater, I decided to make one myself. It became a hooded Bimaa. Then I decided to make her a pair of pants as well. Therefore I used the pattern of The Ananda Pants. For both patterns I made a size 6, for my slim almost 6 year old. These patterns are very quick to sew, I guess I worked about 3 to 4 hours on the total costume. 

Ik kocht twee fleece dekentjes voor de trui en broek. Voor de knopen, wenkbrauwen en ogen van Olaf gebruikte ik zwarte vilt. Voor de ogen gebruikte ik ook stukjes van de witte fleece. Ik zette de knopen en wenkbrauwen vast met vliesofix. De ogen zette ik ook met behulp van vliesofix in elkaar, maar naaide ze vast aan de capuchon. De 'wortel' (in de foto's is het meer een snavel) heb ik ook van vilt gemaakt. Met behulp van een elastiek kon ze hem aan doen.

I bought two fleece blankets for the sweater and pants. For Olafs buttons, eyebrows and eyes I used black felt. For the eyes I also used pieces of white fleece. I ironed the buttons and eyebrows on, using wonder under. I assambled the eyes with wonder under also, but sewed them on. The 'carrot' (in the pictures it looks more like a beak) is made of orange felt. She can put it on with the help of an elastic.

En toen was het feest op school. De Raad van Elf en de prins kwamen langs en bekeken de kostuums. Toen Z uit school kwam, had ze een beker bij. Ze was het mooist verkleedde meisje van de school! :) Het was niet mijn bedoeling haar als mooiste meisje te verkleden, maar ik vind het toch wel een compliment op m'n werk.

 And then the party started at school. The Elferrat came by and viewed the costumes.When Z came home from school she had a trophy with her. She was the 'most beautiful dressed girl'! :) I didn't mean to dress her as the most beautiful girl, but I think of it as a compliment on my work. 

Het leukste kraamcadeau (om te geven) - The greatest baby shower gift (to give)

Het is zo ver, het kraamcadeau waar ik het meest naar uitzag kom het te kunnen geven, is op de plaats van bestemming aangekomen! Voor mij dus het leukste kraamcadeau om te geven, of dat voor de ontvanger ook zo is, daar kan ik niet over oordelen ;). Afgelopen zondag besloot mijn neefje-of-nichtje-op-komst te laten weten dat hij een neefje is en dat zijn verjaardag 8 februari zou zijn. Al een paar weken was ik bezig een 'mand' te maken met zelfgemaakte baby spulletjes. De mand heb ik uiteindelijk niet meer gemaakt. Wat er wel in zat: Een verschoningsmat, knuffel, slab en slofjes. Allemaal met een Zeeuws tintje. Bij elk projectje gebruikte ik Zeeuws schortenbont.

There it is. The baby shower gift I looked forward to the most to give, has arrived on its destination! For me it was the greatest gift to give, I can't judge if it was the greatest gift to receive also ;). Last Sunday my nice-or-nephew-to-be decided to let us know he is a nephew and his birthday would be the 8th of February. Last couple of weeks I was busy making a 'basket' with baby stuff. Finally I didn't make the basket itself anymore. The baby stuff I did make: A changingmat, stuffed animal, bib and booties. All of them in a Zealandish theme. In every project I used Zealandish schortenbont. 

De slofjes - The booties
Het patroon voor de slofjes vond ik, via Pinterest, hier. Ik gebruikte jeansstof voor de buitenkant en zwarte katoen voor de binnenkant. Een strookje schortenbont kwam op de achterkant (niet op de foto's). Het maken van de slofjes viel wat tegen. Dat kwam voornamelijk door de stofkeuze. Deze slofjes kan je blijkbaar beter maken van dunnere katoen. Jeans is dik en stug en de babyslofjes klein. Het werd dus nogal een gepruts, maar het is uiteindelijk toch gelukt.

I found the pattern for the booties here, via Pinterest. As outher fabric I used denim, for the lining I used black cotton. At the back I added a piece of schortenbont (not in the pictures). Making the booties wasn't as easy as I had hoped. The main reason for this was my choice in fabric. I guess the booties are easier to make with thinner cotton. The denim was thick and rigid and the baby booties are tiny. It was a bit of tinkering, but I finally made it.

De slab - The bib
Voor de slab tekende ik een patroon aan de hand van een slab uit mijn eigen collectie. Ik maakte de voorkant van jeansstof en de achterkant van tricot. Voor ik deze delen aan elkaar stikte, naaide ik op de jeans een strook schortenbond en een sierstiksel. Het samenvoegen van de voor- en achterkant was nog niet zo eenvoudig. Tricot en jeans samen is geen handige combinatie: De tricot rekte ontzettend, de jeans was stug en rekte dus absoluut niet. Ik had dus beter voor katoen of iets dergelijks gekozen als achterkant. Uiteindelijk ben ik toch tevreden met het resultaat. De slab sluit met klittenband in de nek.

The pattern for the bib I drew after a bib from my own collection. The front of the bib is made of denim, the back is tricot. Before sewing these parts together, I sewed a strip schortenbont and a lockstick on the front. Sewing the front and back together wasn't easy. Tricot and denim isn't a handy combination. The tricot was very stretchy and the denim absolutly not. Choosing cotton for the back would be a better idea. Finaly I'm happy with the result. The bib closes with velcro on the back. 

De knuffel - The stuffed animal
De olifant maakte ik al eerder. Het patroon vind je hier (Pinterest). Hiervoor gebruikte ik dunne, rekbare denim (lijf), badstof en schortenbont (oren). Op de poten borduurde ik de initialen van mijn neefje en zijn geboortedatum.

De verschoningsmat - The changingmat
De verschoningsmat is een mix van deze (pin) en deze (pin) tutorial. Ik gebruikte de afmetingen van de tweede tutorial, al maakte ik de bovenkant helemaal recht. De zak naaide ik er ook los op. Dit deed ik voor ik de badstof aan de denim naaide, zodat je de naden van de zak niet aan de buitenkant ziet. Voor ik de zak erop stikte, maakte ik een applicatie van schortenbond en naaide ik een strook schortenbont tussen de voering en de buitenkant van de zak. Bovenin maakte ik een lusje van elastiek en achterop de mat (net boven de zak) zit een knoop. Zo kan je hem opvouwen en meenemen.

For the changingmat I combined  this (pin) toturial with this(pin) tutorial. I used the sizes of the second tutorial, but made the top straight. I sewed the pocket seperatly on the mat. I did this before sewing the terry and denim of the mat together, so you can't see the stiches on the outside of the mat. Before doing this, I sewed an application on the pocket and added a strip of schortenbont between the outer fabric and the lining. At the top I made a little loop with an elastic and at the back of the mat (just above the pocket) I added a button. So the mat can be folded.

Ik heb echt veel plezier gehad in het maken van dit setje. Alleen al omdat ik het voor mijn (favoriete) neefje heb gemaakt! Ik hoop dat hij er ook plezier van zal hebben ;).

Snelle knuffel - Quick stuffed animal

Heb ik al gezegd dat er hier een kleine babyboom aan de gang is? Afgelopen week kwam het CBS al met net nieuws dat er meer geboortes waren in 2014 en ook voor 2015 worden er meer verwacht. Voor mijn omgeving kan ik dat beamen (al denk ik niet dat voor mijn omgeving geldt dat de geboortes zijn uitgesteld door de economische crisis, maar dat is een ander verhaal...). Twee weken geleden kregen we een uitnodiging voor een babyborrel voor de baby van een van de leidsters van het kinderdagverblijf. De borrel was afgelopen zaterdag. Ik wilde zelf iets maken voor de baby en zocht dus een snel projectje. Dat vond ik hier.

Het werd een beetje een projectje vol met twijfels. Eerst wilde ik er een tut-doekje van maken, met wat feedback uit de naaikrans, bedacht ik dat een knuffel toch leuker zou zijn.

Did I mention the little babyboom that is happening aroudn here? Last week our national bureau of statistics (CBS) brought the news of more briths in 2014, and more to be expected in 2015. I can agree with this for the people around me (altough I don't think this births are deferred becouse of the economic crisis, but that's an other story...). Two weeks ago we were invited for a babydrink (is this a true word in English?) for the baby of one of the teachers at the day care. This was last saturday. As I wanted to make a gift myself, I was looking of a quick project. I found it here.

It became a project full of doubts. First I wanted to make a cloth of it, but with the feedback at the sewing circle, I tought it would be nicer as a stuffed animal.

Het idee van rijst onder in het lijf sprak me ook wel aan. Dan kan hij ook zitten. Maar toen bedacht ik dat je de knuffel niet zou kunnen wassen, iets wat ik zelf wel belangrijk vindt. Je kan er dan speciale bolletjes in doen, maar daar had ik geen tijd meer voor. Dus dat idee heb ik laten varen.

I liked the idea of putting rice in the bottom of the stuffed animal. By doing this, the rabbit could sit. But then I tought you couldn't wash it, something I found important. You could put special globules in it, but I didn't have the time fot that. So I let go that idea.

Toen bedacht ik dat het leuk zou zijn van een oor een knisper oor te maken. Maar dit had niet de gewenste uitwerking. Het leek me ook wel grappig een belletje in het konijn of een van de oren te stoppen, want de baby heet Annabel. Maar dat leek me later toch een beetje flauw.

Then I tought it would be nice to make one crinkle ear. But this didn't work out the way I had in mind. I also tought it would be nice to put a bell in the rabbit or in an ear, becouse the baby's name is Annabel. But then I tought this would be silly.

Het idee dat wel bleef was een applicatie met de eerste letter van haar naam op het lijf van het konijn. Het konijn is gemaakt van rode fleece die ik nog had liggen en stukjes van een versleten spijkerbroek. Het snuitje heb ik er op geborduurd. Hij is ongeveer 28 cm lang. Hiervoor heb ik het patroon verdeeld over twee A4-tjes (zeg maar één A3) en voegde ik nog naadwaarde toe bij het knippen.

The idea that did survive was an application with the first letter of her name on the body of the rabbit. I made the rabbit of red fleece I had lying around and pieces of a worn out jeans. I embroidered the snout. The rabbit is about 28 cm (11 inch) long. To make a rabbit this size, I printed the pattern in two A4 papers and added some seamallowence.  

Prototype

Al heel lang loop ik met een idee rond. Z en S vinden het heel leuk om te helpen in de keuken. Vooral S geniet hier van. Terwijl grote zus Z TV kijkt, komt S mij helpen met 'aardappels schilderen' (=aardappels schillen, uiteraard). Ik schil ze dan en hij wast ze. Als ze allemaal zijn geschild krijg ik ze één voor één terug om ze te snijden en in de pan te doen. Zijn taak neemt hij heel serieus, met als gevolg dat alles nat is... Als ze me helpen in de keuken krijgen ze een schort van mij om. Maar dat zakt altijd naar beneden. Dus nu was mijn idee een schort te maken voor de kinderen. Ik kocht de stofjes, we gingen verbouwen, ik werd zwanger... Je raad het al, de schortjes zijn nog steeds niet gemaakt.

For a long time I have an idea. Z and S like to help in the kitchen. Especially S enjoys this. While big sister Z is watching telly, he helps peeling the potatoes. I do the peeling S does the washing. When every potato is peeled, I get them back, one by one to put them into a saucepan. He takes his tast very seriously, which means everyting is wet afterwards... When they help me in the kitchen, I give them one of my aprons. But this always slips off. So my idea was to make an apron for the kids. I bought the fabric, we did some rebuilding in our house, I got pregnant... As you'll guess, the aprons are still not made.

Nu moest het er toch van komen, ik moet die schortjes maken. Het moest een one-size-fits-all exemplaar worden en ik zou het patroon zelf tekenen. Ik puzzelde en mat en bedacht afmetingen voor het schort en de zak. Ik bedacht twee linten die op de rug kruisen, zodat ze aan elk formaat kind aan te passen zijn. Voor de zekerheid maakte ik eerst een prototype. Het schort dat na één uur naaien al in elkaar. Ik ben blij met het resultaat, maar ik ga nog iets aan de maten aanpassen en dan maak ik er twee in de stofjes die ik ooit bestelde.

Now I had to make the aprons. I wanted to make a one-size-fits-all exemplar and I wanted to drew the pattern myself. I puzzled for the sizes. I came up with two ribbons which cross on the back, so it'll fit any kid. To be sure I made a prototype first. It took only one hour to sew. I like the result, but will change a bit in sizing and then I make two aprons out of the fabric I orderd long ago.

Gaten dichten - Closing gaps

Ik vind het leuk om kleding te maken, maar kleding repareren 'is zeg maar niet zo mijn ding'. Maar toen Z thuis kwam met een gat in een nieuwe legging (serieus, wat doen kleuters op school? die week kwam ze elke week thuis met ergens een pleister en dus een gat in de legging...), vond ik toch dat ik hem moest repareren.

I like to make clothes, but don't like to repair them. But when Z came home with a hole in her new leggings (seriously, what to toddlers do at school? That week she came home with a band aid every day), I tought I should repair them.

Deze legging draagt ze meestal een tuniek met sterren op de ellebogen. In mijn recycle voorraad had ik een vestje liggen in dezelfde kleur als deze sterren. Ik gebruikte een beetje stof van dit vestje en maakte hier een applicatie van. Maar hoe deze applicatie nu op een bestaande legging te naaien? Ik besloot een deel van de zij-naad open te maken, zodat ik er bij kon en hem kon naaien met mijn naaimachine. Met de hand naaien zag ik niet zitten. Ik streek hierna de ster op de legging en naaide hem vast. Vervolgens streek ik de legging en naaide ik de zij-naad weer dicht.

She wears these leggings with a tunic with stars on the elbows. In my stash of clothes to recycle I had a top in the same color as the stars. I used a bit of fabric of this top and made an application out of it. But how to sew an appliation on existing leggings? I decided to open a part of the side seam of the leggings, so I could sew it on with my sewing machine. I didn't want to sew it on by hand. I ironed and sewed it on. After that I closed the side seam.  

Al met al viel het nog niet mee om een tricot-applicatie op een tricot legging te naaien, maar het is gelukt. De legging lag klaar toen Z uit school kwam en ze was er heel blij mee. Ze heeft me plechtig beloofd nu geen gat meer in de legging te zullen vallen. We zullen zien...

It wasn't easy to sew a tricot application on tricot leggins, but I made it. When Z came home from school the leggings where waiting for her. She was pleased to see them fixed. She pledged she won't fall a hole in it again. We shall see...
