Het eerste projectje voor haar - The first project for her

Een jaar en twee maanden oud is Y al weer. En nu pas heb ik voor het eerst iets voor haar genaaid. Dat werd wel tijd... Ach, ze heeft niet te klagen hoor, ik haakte 9 maanden aan een deken voor haar en de CAL deken wordt ook voor haar gebruikt. En aan de haak projectjes heb ik toch altijd meer werk dan aan de naai projecten.

Maar goed, ik heb wat voor haar genaaid dus. Een jurkje en een legging. Beiden in maat 80, beiden uit Ottobre 2014/1. Twee snel-klaar-projectjes dacht ik.

One year and two months old. That's Y's age. It took me until now to sew her something. It was about time... Well, she doesn't have to complain eighter. I made her a blanket that took me about 9 months to crochet, and the CAL blanket is beeing used for her only. 

Ok, I sewed her something. A dress and a legging. Both size 80 (12 months), both patterns are from Ottobre 2014/1. Two quick sew projects, I tought.
 

Nou ja. Maar in de jurk zitten plooitjes aan de hals en de mouwen. Die je dus eerst moet vouwen, strijken, stikken. En dan komt de perfectionist in mij naar boven en vind ik dat het perfect moet zitten. En dan kost zo'n simpel jurkje ineens wat meer tijd dan gedacht...

Well... The dress has pleats in the neckline and on top of the sleeves. So that included folding, ironing, stiching. And than I become a perfectionist and it has to be perfect. And than sewing someting quick isn't as quick as you would think first.

Met de mouwen maakte ik me er wel wat makkelijker vanaf. Eigenlijk moet je die eerst rimpelen en vervolgens de boord aannaaien. De boord is wat korter dan de mouw was, dus die naaide ik gewoon aan terwijl ik de boord wat aantrok. Daardoor ontstaan de rimpels ook :)

I made it myself easy with the sleeves. They had to be wrinkled before sewing. But I sewed the wristband straight on. As the cuff is shorter than the sleeve piece is, the sleeve gets wrinkled when sewing it on.

De legging hoort eigenlijk rond de knieën gerimpeld te zijn, maar daar had ik niet genoeg stof voor. Ik kortte het patroon voor het voorpand in, zodat de rimpels achterwege bleven.

The legging is supposed to have wrinkles at knee hight. But I didn't have enough fabric for that. So I shortened the pattern and left the wrinkles behind.

Resultaat: een vrolijk setje voor onze vrolijke Y :)

De langverwachte deken - The long-expected blanket

Toen ik half november mijn vorige post plaatste, dacht ik dat ik een lekker productieve maand tegemoet ging, naaigewijs dan. Ik had namelijk een nieuwe baan gevonden (vanaf nu - januari) en bij mijn oude baan al m'n verlof opgenomen, zodat ik heel december vrij was. Maar ja, december is een drukke maand en zodra ze op school en in de kerk weten dat je vrij bent.... Ben je vrij snel weer bezet.

Eind november rondde ik wel een project af, waar ik in februari mee gestart was. De deken voor Y. Een paar dagen voor haar eerste verjaardag op 21 november, was hij klaar! Een sneak preview zag je hier al eerder. Ik maakte wat foto's maar was er niet helemaal tevreden over. Een maand later heb ik nog steeds geen andere foto's gemaakt, maar wil ik wel graag laten zien wat er van is geworden. Dus dan maar de foto's waar ik minder tevreden mee ben...

When I posted my last post here in November, I thought I was going to have a productive sewing month. I had found a new job (starting now, in January) and had enough days off left to stay at home all days in December. Only December is a busy month and as soon as school and church know you're at home... You're quickly re-occupied...

At the end of November I finished a project which I started in Febrary. Y's blanket. It was finished just before she turned 1 year old at November 21st. I've shown a sneak preview here earlier. I've made pictures of the blanket but wasn't satisfied with them. But I realy want to show this blanket, so we have to deal with the pictures as they are.  

 

Al vanaf het moment dat ik leerde haken (oktober 2014) wilde ik graag een 'ripple blanket' haken. Dus toen de CAL 2014 deken klaar was, begon ik vol goede moed aan een ripple blanket voor Y. Ik maakte zelfs een proeflapje! En rekende uit hoeveel garen ik nodig had. Ik had nog veel over van deze deken die ik eerder breide. De rest bestelde ik bij.

When I first started to crochet (October 2014), I knew I wanted to make a ripple blanket. So, when I finished the CAL 2014 blanket, I started a ripple blanket for Y. I even made a swatch and calculated the amount of yarn I would need. I had plenty left of the blanket I knitted before. The rest I ordered extra. 

Ik dacht eerst dat de deken niet breed genoeg werd, dus maakte ik de eerste ketting lossen langer. Dat was niet nodig geweest... Nu is de deken 150 x 150 cm. Eigenlijk te groot voor het ledikantje van Y. Maar wie weet krijgen we nog een strenge winter, en geeft het niet dat je hem een paar keer dubbel moet vouwen....

First I thought the blanket wouldn't be wide enough, so I lengtened the starting chain. Afterwards this was unnecessary... The blanket is now about 150 cm x 150 cm (about 50x50 inch). A bit to large for Y's crib. Well... who knows, imagine we'll get a cold winter after all (until now it even didn't freeze at night), and then it would be lovely to have a double folded blanket on you after all...

Het idee van de kleuren voor de deken vond ik hier (pin). Ik vind het idee van de oude postzakken wel leuk en de kleuren in de baby kamer zijn ook rood-wit-blauw. De basiskleur van de deken is ecru. Daarover een rode, witte en blauwe band en daar tussen een band met rood-wit-blauw. Langs de rode, witte en blauwe band haakte ik een strook zwart. Hier haakte ik halve stokjes in plaats van stokjes. De rand maakte ik in rood-wit-blauw weefsteek (Telkens 1 vaste, 1 losse en een steek overslaan).

The color idea for this blanket I found here (pin). I liked the idea to use the colors of the old postbags, and it fits the Red-White-Blue in the nursery. The base color in this blanket is ecru. It has a red, white and blue brim and between them brims with red-white-blue in it. The large red, white and blue brims are trapped between little black lines. These I made with a half double crochet (US terms) stich in stead of a double crochet (US terms) stich. The border I've made in linen stich (1 single crochet, 1 chain and skip 1 stich (US terms)).

Gewonnen - Won

Ik win nooit iets. Aan spelletjes die voor het grootste deel op geluk gebaseerd zijn, hoef ik niet mee te doen, ik verlies. Dat was 'vroeger' al zo en dat is nog steeds zo. Meedoen aan give-aways deed ik eigenlijk niet meer. Ik win toch nooit. Alleen als ik iets voorbij zie komen op een blog die ik volg en wat ik ook echt heel leuk vind doe ik nog wel mee. Maar dan meer voor het idee. Ik verwacht niet dat ik iets win. Nee, mijn geluk zit in de liefde, niet in het spel :)

Wat schetste mijn verbazing. In 2 weken tijd, won ik 2 give-aways! Eentje van Pienkel en een van Happy In Red. Bij de give-away van Pienkel koos ik voor dit patroon en bij de give-away van Happy In Red koos ik voor pakket 3. Gisteren kwam het pakketje binnen. Ik ben nu in de afrondende fase van de deken voor Y (waar ik in februari aan begon!!), dus die maak ik eerst af. Er ligt ook nog een deken voor mijn neefje te wachten. Ik denk dat ik straks weer aan twee projecten zit te werken ;)

Nienke en Esther, bedankt voor de cadeaus. Ik ben er heel blij mee. De resultaten zullen hier vanzelf voorbij komen :)

I never win anything. I don't have to join games which are mainly based on luck, I know I'll lose. This was the case when I was younger and it still is. I stoped joining give-aways, 'couse I never win. I make an exeption for give-aways which I realy like and are on blogs I follow. And than I just join for the idea. I don't expect to win. No, my luck is in love, not in the game :)

To my surprise I won 2 give-aways in about 2 weeks time! One by Pienkel and one by Happy In Red. I choosed this pattern at Pienkels give-away and kit 3 at Happy In Red's give-away. Yesterday the parcel arrived. I'm finishing Y's blanket right now (started it in februari!!). When it's finished there is a blanket for my nephew waiting to be finished. I'll guess I'm working on two projects at once again ;).

Nienke and Esther, thanks for the presents. I'm realy happy with them. You'll see the results over here when the projects are finised :)

Het eerste winterproject - The first winter project

De zomer is nu toch echt voorbij. Sinds een week lopen we nu in onze winterjassen en truien-met-lange-mouwen. We mogen niet klagen, de zomer duurde zowat tot begin oktober! Hopelijk komt hij weer snel terug, maar voorlopig zal het wel alleen maar kouder worden (ach, schaatsen en zo is ook heel leuk!). Ter voorbereiding op een gast post 'moest' ik een sweater maken. Bij het checken van de winterkleding in de kinderkasten, bleek S niet veel passende truien (en broeken) meer te hebben. En, op zoek naar heel wat anders, kwam ik een heerlijke, stoere, sweatstof tegen! Dit resulteerde in een Omni Tempore voor S.

Summer has gone for now. Since last week we're wearing our winterjackets and long sleeves. We can't complain, summer lasted 'till the start of October! I hope he will be back soon, but for now it will be getting colder (well, ice skating is nice too!). As a preperation on a guest post I 'had to' make a sweater. While checking the wardrobes of the kids for clothes for the colder days, I found out S didn't have much longsleeves nor sweaters (nor pants) anymore. While looking for something completly different, I found a nice, warm and sturdy jursey! This all resulted in a Omni Tempore for S.
 

Ik koos voor de sjaal-kraag en maakte maat 98. Hoewel hij wel 102 cm lang is, is dit toch 'zijn' maat. Hij past ook mooi, maar als hij gaat spelen heeft hij soms toch een blote rug. Misschien de volgende keer toch maar een maatje groter maken. Of wel deze breedte maar dan in de lengte een maatje groter....

I did choose the shawl collar and sewed up a size 3. Altough he is between a size 3 and 4 in length, size 3 is 'his' size. The Omni Tempore fits fine, but when he is playing you can see his back. Maybe I have to sew up a larger size next time. Or only lengthen the shirt...? 
 

Ondanks mijn zelfkritiek is S super blij met zijn trui. Zodra hij vanonder mijn naaimachine kwam gerold moest de trui aan. Waarschijnlijk om van mijn gezeur af te zijn (pas je wel op, ik wil er nog foto's van maken), moesten er ook direct foto's gemaakt worden. Gelukkig was het een van de laatste dagen met mooi weer, dus dat was zo gepiept.

Despite of my self-critisism S is very happy with his shirt. As soon as it came from under my sewing machine he had to put it on. And, probably to stop me from bothering him (watch it, I have to take pictures of it!), I immediatly had to take pictures. Luckaly it was one of the last warm days, so it didn't take long.

Bruidsjurk - Wedding Dress

Het is al weer 3 weken geleden dat ik het volgende schreef: De stof voor de outfit van Z hangt aan de lijn te wapperen en het patroon is al uitgeknipt. Ik heb nog 2 weken om de boel in elkaar te zetten... Dat moet te doen zijn ;)
Inmiddels zijn we dus 3 weken verder, in plaats van 2, je zou denken dat het dus niet te doen was. Maar de jurk was op tijd klaar. Alleen was het in de dagen niet echt weer om buiten foto's te maken. En buiten foto's vind ik toch mooier... Dus vierden we eerst feest (in de jurk) en streek ik de jurk een dag later opnieuw om nog wat foto's te maken.

It's been 3 weeks since I wrote: The fabric for Z's outfit is fluttering on the clothesline now and the pattern is waiting. In 2 weeks it should be finished... That should be doable...
Three weeks later you should think I didn't make it, but I did! The weather wasn't very nice when I finished the dress and I prefer to take pictures outside. So we went to the party (with the dress). The day after we took some pictures after I ironed the dress. 

Het patroon van deze jurk kreeg ik cadeau!* Het is de Iridis jurk met cirkel rok add-on van Sofilantjes.Ik liet Z zelf de stofjes uitzoeken in bij Sew Natural (inmiddels wel mijn favoriete [online] stoffenwinkel...). Uiteindelijk koos ze deze. Tja, voor de cirkel rok heb je behoorlijk wat stof nodig. Ik was dus niet van plan de hele jurk in deze stof te maken. In online shops vind ik het altijd moeilijk te zien of twee verschillende stoffen goed combineren. Daarom vroeg ik Marieke (van Sew Natural) om stofadvies. Zij kwam met twee effen stoffen die er mooi bij pasten: Roze en Paars. Ze stuurde een foto waarbij de stoffen naast elkaar lagen, zodat we zelf goed konden kiezen. Ik vond de roze wel mooi, maar daar dacht Z anders over (ik moet eens leren omgekeerde psychologie toe te passen ;) ). Dus werd het de paarse. Ik moet zeggen: Z heeft een goede smaak. De kleuren staan haar echt prachtig. Ze heeft een beetje blauw, groen, grijze ogen en daar staat de bloemetjes stof prachtig bij. Ook de paarse stof combineert heel mooi met de bloemetjes stof.

The pattern was a gift* from Anne from Sofilantjes. It's her Iridis dress with circle skirt add-on. Z did choose the fabrics online at Sew Natural (which became my favorite [online] fabric store). Finaly she choosed this fabric. I didn't want to sew the whole dress in this fabric. In online stores I find it hard to see if two fabrics match. So I asked Marieke from Sew Natural for some advise. She found two fabrics which were great matches with the flower fabric: Pink and Purple. She did send me a picture so I could see for myself. I thought pink would be nice, but Z disagreed (I realy should learn how to use reverse psychology ;) ). So purple it would be. I have to admit: Z has a great taste of colours. The colours look great on her.  She has blue, green, grey eyes which matches the fabric with the flowers. The purple fabric then matches the flower fabric very well.

Ik bestelde de stof ruim, omdat ik de jurk helemaal wilde afwerken met baisband. Ik knipte eerst de patroondelen uit en vervolgens maakte ik meters baisband. Het lint knipte ik deze keer op deze manier. Dat is even wennen, maar het werkt stukken sneller!

I ordered a bit more fabric than I thought I needed, becouse I wanted to finish the dress with biais tape. First I cut out the pattern pieces and after that I made a lot of biaisis tape. This time I did cut the tape like this. You have to get used to this, but when you do it's way faster!

De mouwen van de jurk paste ik aan. Ik maakte de mouwen op elleboog lengte. Hier zette ik een cirkel aan vast. Dit geeft de jurk een nog feestelijkere uitstraling, vind ik.

I altered the pattern pieces for the sleeves. I made them at elbow length and added a circle piece to them. 

Nog steeds had ik restjes over. Daarom maakte ik nog een haarband, volgens dit patroon. Ik houd van snelle projectjes en dit is er zo een! In een half uur heb je een mooie haarband! Z wil graag lang haar maar daar wil ze dan liever niets in. Zo'n haarband is dan een mooi compromis. Ze heeft haar haar toch los en het zit niet alsmaar in haar gezicht.

Becouse I still had some fabric left, I made a headband with this pattern. I like quick sewing project and this is one! In half an hour you have a nice headband! Z wants to have her hear long, but refuses to wear it in a tail. This headband is a nice comprimse. She is able to wear her hear loose, and it doesn't get in her face all the time. 

Z is heel blij met haar jurk. En niet in de laatste plaats omdat je er mee kan zwieren!

Z likes her dress a lot. The twirl factor of this dress is one of the main reasons for her liking this dress, I guess.

Deze jurk was dus bedoeld voor het bruiloftsfeest van mijn zusje. Dan mag je natuurlijk niet mooier zijn dan de bruid. Hoewel het zwier gehalte van de echte bruidsjurk niet zo groot was als van Z haar jurk, kon ik toch niet aan de echte bruidsjurk tippen, vond ik zelf. Maar oordeel vooral zelf:

This dress was made for the wedding of my sister. You can't be more beautiful then the bride is, on her wedding, can you? While the twirl factor of the real wedding dress wasn't as great as the twirl factor of Z's dress, I couldn't compete with the wedding dress. See for yourself:

Zonen09 Outfit

Binnenkort vieren mijn zusje en haar man hun bruiloft. Toen ik voor S de Jacob maakte, besloot ik voor hem en de grote zus een complete outfit te maken voor de bruiloft. De Jacob zou gecombineerd worden met een Ethan shirt. De stof voor dit shirt werd een ontwerp van Zonen09: Stickly Rockers. Vandaar dat de complete outfit een beetje een Zonen09 outfit is geworden.

In a few weeks my sister and her husband celebrate their wedding. When sewing the Jacob for S I decided to make S and his big sister a outfit for the wedding. The Jacob should be combinded with a Ethan shirt. The fabric for this shirt became Sticly Rockers, a design by Zonen09. That's why the outfit became a little bit a Zonen09 outfit.

For the record: Ik had deze blouse dus netjes gestreken, alvorens er foto's gemaakt gingen worden. Maar S besloot dat zijn eerste pose een gehurkte pose zou zijn. Schattig hoor, maar wel meteen de blouse in de kreukels natuurlijk...

For the record: I did iron the shirt before the photoshoot. I didn't count on S who thought it would be nice to squat for his first pose of the shoot. Adorable, but it wrinkled the shirt of course...

Ik maakte een maat 3 voor de 3,5 jarige. Voor de mouwen en de panden gebruikte ik de een na langste maat van het patroon. De mouwen hadden misschien nog wel een maat (één inch) langer gemogen. Maar aan de andere kant zijn ze nu precies lang genoeg. De manchetknopen van blousejes gaan bij S nooit dicht. Het past wel (net) maar we hebben er gewoon allebei het geduld niet voor denk ik :).

I sewed up a size 3 for our 3,5 year old. I used the second longest size for the sleeves and the body. I think I could use the longest size (1 inch taller). On the other hand, the sleeves are exactly long enough now. The buttons on the cuffs never close when S wears them. It does fit (just), but we both don't have the patience for it, I guess... ;)

Bij dit patroon vind ik het altijd leuk om een accentstof te gebruiken. Ik leefde me wat minder uit als bij dit exemplaar. Voor de binnenkant van de manchetten, de staander van de kraag en de binnenkant van de schouderpas heb ik  een effen witte katoen gebruikt. Het leek me niet verstandig om deze kleur aan de buitenkant te gebruiken. Dat zou namelijk nooit lang wit blijven....

With this pattern I love to use accents in the fabric. I did use less of it this time, compared to this one. I used a plain white cotton on the inside of the cuffs, the collar stand and the inside of the back yoke. I didn't think it would be wisely to use this on the outside. It wouldn't be white for long then, wouldn't it?

Voor de maat gebruikte ik weer een stukje biaisband dat ik deze keer in de schouderpas verwerkte. Bij de post over de Jacob vroeg ik hoe jullie dat doen. Als je nog inspiratie zoekt, kijk dan eens hier en hier (check hier ook de reacties, daar staan ook nog ideeën tussen).

To label the size I used baistape again. This time I sewed it between the back yokes. I asked how you label the size in your sewed garment, in the post about the Jacob. Bij het doorstikken wisselde ik steeds van draad, wit op wit, blauw op blauw. Behalve bij de knoopsgaten, daar werd t blauw op wit en wit op blauw, en bij het zakje, dat stikte ik door met wit. Het stofje is trouwens heerlijk. Zacht, een beetje glad en staat heel netjes.

I changed thread while topstitching: white on white, blue on blue. Except for the button holes there it became blue on white and white on blue, and for the topstiching on the pocket, I used white. The fabric is lovely, by the way. Soft, a bit smooth and neat...
 

De outfit voor S is klaar. Een zeer verantwoorde outfit eigenlijk. Een gerecykleerde broek en een blouse in biokatoen (GOTS gecertificeerd). De stof voor de outfit van Z hangt aan de lijn te wapperen en het patroon is al uitgeknipt. Ik heb nog 2 weken om de boel in elkaar te zetten... Dat moet te doen zijn ;)

So, the outfit for S is finished. A very responseble outfit to be honest. Recycled pants and a shirt made of bio cotton (GOTS certified). The fabric for Z's outfit is fluttering on the clothesline now and the pattern is waiting. In 2 weeks it should be finished... That should be doable...

Na de Jacob stond een Ethan op de rol (beide Bijbelse namen bedenk ik me net :)). We hebben namelijk binnenkort een feestje en dat geeft weer een mooi excuus om wat mooie outfits te fabriceren. Voor de kids wel te verstaan. Niet voor mezelf, wegens gebrek aan tijd. Tijdens het naaiproces ontstaat er meestal een behoorlijke chaos van patroondelen, stukken stof, draad, schaar, enz... op m'n naaitafel. Met daar tussen mijn laptop (voor de instructies) en natuurlijk mijn naaimachine. De Ethan is inmiddels bijna klaar, hier onder een foto van een paar dagen terug...

Hoe ziet jouw naaitafel er uit als je aan een project bezig bent? Wat ligt er momenteel op jouw naaitafel?

After I made the Jacob, there was an Ethan waiting for me (both Biblical names, I realize now :)). We've got a party to go to soon, so that makes a perfect excuse to sew some nice outfits. Well... for the kids that is. Not for me becouse of a lack of time. During the proces a little chaos is taking over my sewing table. Pattern parts, pieces of fabric, thread, scissors, enz... In between there are my laptop (for sewing instructions) and sewing machine. In the mean time the Ethan is almost finished, on the picture above is the situation of a few days ago.
